Welcome to PAL at Grace Academy!
PAL, short for Play And Learn, has been developed by Grace Academy as an afterschool active learning, multi-sensory, literacy-based educational program for students ages 6-10. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to read, write, think, and speak well and with confidence. Based on the importance of creative play and movement in the learning process, PAL’s innovative methods will capitalize on the fact that using the arts, great literature, and board games can create strong readers and effective communicators.

Ages 6 - 8/Grades 1-2
Ages 8-10/Grades 3-4
has been providing academic assistance and enrichment programs for Central Maine homeschooling families since 2009.
In 2016, we were gifted with our very own building. Since the opening of our physical learning center on Route 3 in South China, we have been inundated with requests to tutor local students in reading and writing, as well as complete curriculum assistance.
These requests prompted us to consider expanding our educational choices. After months of discussion, Grace Academy created the new dynamic program you see here, Play And Learn - or as we affectionately call it - PAL.

FITNESS & NUTRITION
At PAL, we understand the important link between healthy habits and powerful brain function. PAL provides nutritious snacks and engages students in a 20-minute session of physical activity to encourage a healthier lifestyle for today and tomorrow.
ART, MUSIC, AND MORE
The Arts provide creative ways for students to express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas, thus positively affecting all areas of reading, writing, thinking and speaking. Music education increases listening skills, reading accuracy, and comprehension. Visual arts open the mind to different perspectives, thus extending critical thinking and vocabulary development.
Literature circles will draw examples of good writing from classic stories while enabling students to contemplate the complexities of the world in which they live. These readings will enhance student strategies in narrating, summarizing, and making inferences. PAL's Reading Revolution will weave together reading and writing skills through great literature and carefully structured writing activities.
Homework is one of the keys to academic success. Our volunteers will monitor homework and provide help when needed. If students complete homework before the time is up, they may move on to an enrichment activity, such as playing games that will further develop their math skills.
